The vital importance of good influencing skills

People want to feel fulfilled in their work. We all want to be engaged, enthused and highly effective - in our individual and unique way.

These fundamental concepts apply across all organisations, sectors and levels of authority and responsibility.

Most of us recognise this. We appreciate that engagement is necessary if people are to be their very best. We understand that firms with high levels of engagement are likely to be more productive and profitable. However, many of us struggle to create and sustain a suitable working environment and an appropriate culture.

We suggest that a key part of the problem is that people don't really appreciate how to engage, communicate, relate and build trust with other people. Because we are all different and difference leads to difficulty - unless we know what to do about it.

Treat people the way they want to be treated, not the way you want to be treated.

That's why we created Influencing4Results. A programme that tackles both the Skills needed to become more effective influencers and also the Will - the motivation and desire to do something about it.

Influencing4Results

Influencing4Results supports individuals, teams and organisations to increase their capability to influence and to take charge of their communications with colleagues, managers, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders in ways that make them more valued, more successful and more satisfied.

Effective influencers;

  • Build rapport and trust
  • Show good communication and planning skills
  • Listen behind the stated needs
  • Orchestrate appropriate resources
  • Align people's objectives
  • Build a shared vision of commitment
  • Understand the financial impact of proposals
  • Apply consultative problem solving techniques
Influencing4Results guides people to become more effective at influencing others by using and applying real life lessons to develop their capabilities and confidence.

The integrated training, development and coaching programme comprises of four linked phases;

  • A session with each individual to explore their current influencing capabilities, their approach to influence and style of communication using the MBTI. Examples of effective and ineffective communications are identified
  • A Strategic Influencing Plan Workshop during which people start to develop their individual plan for growing their influencing capabilities.
  • A workshop focused on developing skills in leading effective communications using MBTI techniques for building skills in rapport and influence
  • Further coaching sessions with individuals to embed the skills into changed behaviours
